With donations made out of savings made by the Local Organising Committee of 88th and 89th Science Congress from Dr. R. S. Paroda, General President, 88th Indian Science Congress and Prof. S. S. Katiyar, General President, 89th Indian Science Congress respectively, The Indian Science Congress Association instituted New Millennium Plaques of Honour which were given to eminent scientists every year in the inaugural function of the Science Congress. From 2003-2004 the award was titled as The Science-in-Society Award and two awards were given. Again from 2005-2006 the award has been renamed as Millennium Plaques of Honour and will be given to two eminent personalities for their contribution in science each year. The award will consist of a Plaque and Rs. 20,000/- to each awardee (to meet the travel and other incidental expenses).
